Invitation to Participate in the 2023 Artist Poster Contest
For the past 33 years, All Saints Episcopal Church has held a spring garden tour, the proceeds of which are donated entirely to charitable organizations. Last year the garden tour donated approximately $40,000 to numerous local charities.
Since 2003 an integral part of this charitable endeavor has been the Artist Poster Contest. Hundreds of local artists have entered works in this competition, and many have sold their work as a result. The artwork selected for the Garden Tour Poster is displayed throughout Beaufort and Jasper Counties. In addition, the art may be used in the future for charitable garden tour fundraising.
As we prepare for our 34th Garden Tour, we would like to invite you to enter one piece of two-dimensional, garden-related art in the poster competition. Flowers, birds, bees, butterflies, frogs, fountains, floral landscapes and abstracts are acceptable subjects for entries. Works in oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastels, mixed media, photography, and colored pencil are acceptable. The piece selected for the poster must be vertically oriented, roughly 12×10 in scale.
Guidelines for Work to be Exhibited
Artwork must be original in conception and execution. Artwork not meeting the hanging standards will not be accepted in the exhibit.
• Framed artwork must not exceed 36” wide or exceed 25 lbs.
• Frames should be secure, solid and in good condition. Glass or plexiglass should be free if dirt, scratches, or fingerprints
• Pieces larger than 30” x 30” must use plexiglass (glass is too heavy)
• Framing wire is required, except for metal backed artworks. Using fishing line, string or any other material for hanging is not acceptable. Framing wire must be attached using d-rings or screw eyes.
• If a work on unframed canvas is to be displayed, the sides of the canvas must be finished
• When using a mat, it should be clean, neatly cut
• No saw-toothed hangers
• No nudes or depiction of violence allowed. The Poster Contest Chair has final discretion on the acceptance of work into the exhibit
All art is for sale during the show; 35% of the sale price is a charitable contribution.
The submitted art will be hung in the gallery corridor of the Hilton Head Branch of the Beaufort Public Library. The Library and the All Saints Garden Tour will make all reasonable efforts to protect artwork while on display but assume no responsibility for loss or damage.
Up to 40 entries will be included in the show.
